Zebra ZAPI0028 at Pilanesberg Game Reserve

ZAPI0028 is a Plains Zebra that was first recorded in October 2025 at Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North West province of South Africa. It is a fantastic game reserve and is situated fairly close to Johannesburg and Pretoria.

When first recorded ZAPI0028 was grazing about 80 metres away from Mankwe Dam in the centre of the reserve. There was only one other zebra anywhere close to him, so I am assuming that it is a male and is in between herds at this time. It will be interesting to see what company he is keeping when he is next spotted.

This zebra doesn’t have too many obvious features in its stripe pattern so matching it to future records will be a bit of a challenge.
