Zebra NAET00005 at Etosha
Often zebras appear dirty which is normally as a result of them rolling in patches of sand. This feature isn’t too noticeable too much on the zebras in Etosha as the sand is lightly coloured. This Plains Zebra, however, seems to have found some reddish-brown sand to roll in.
Is it easily identifiable? Let’s see. I notice that it has obvious shadow stripes. It has faint markings on its legs which are often lacking in Etosha zebras.
Three features that I notice are:
- The “hook” shape near its back.
- The “X” marking on the front left shoulder.
- The joins on the stripes low down on its neck which remind me of a set of points on a railway track.
