Africa is where you find zebras
Zebras are commonly kept in zoos and “safari” parks around the world and are a popular attraction for visitors, particularly for kids. In the wild they are only found in Africa and are restricted to the southern and eastern portions of the continent.
The three different species of Zebra have different ranges which do overlap in parts.
Plains Zebra – Equus quagga – This is the most common of the three species by far. It is found in the following countries: Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Angola and Eswatini.
Mountain Zebra – Equus zebra – Two subspecies are recognised. E. z. zebra (Cape Mountain Zebra) is only found in South Africa. E. z. hartmannae (Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra) is found in Namibia and Angola.
Grévy’s zebra – Equus grevyi – Only found in Kenya and Ethiopia.
